A story by Ghana News Agency
EDUCO, a
Spanish-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), has presented sporting
equipment to 20 selected basic schools in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality
(S/NM) to aid their physical education activities.
Items
donated include 100 each of footballs, volleyballs, handballs, and basketballs
as well as skipping ropes, scrabbles and ludo.
Beneficiary
schools include Pong Tamale Experimental Primary, Jana Rabaniya Primary, the
Nyoglo A.M.E Zion Primary, the Kanshegu Primary, Moglaa M/A Primary, Savelugu
Experimental (A&B) Primary, and Yoo Roman Catholic Primary.
Mr.
Wilfred Dery, the Country Director of EDUCO, who presented the items, said the
gesture was to promote the physical well-being of children.
Mr. Dery
said there was need to focus on activity-based learning to enhance the mental
capabilities of pupils to stay in school and learn.
He urged
beneficiary schools to put the sporting equipment to good use and expressed the
optimism that they would go a long way to promote holistic education in the
municipality.
He said:
"What we intend to achieve with this donation is quality and holistic
education. It is necessary to take good care of them and engage the pupil with
the equipment”.
Mr. Paul
Sanyare, the Headmaster of Kanshegu Primary School, expressed gratitude to
EDUCO for the donation saying the intervention was timely considering the fact
that most schools in the municipality lacked sports equipment for physical
education, which was an essential part of the curricular.
Mr
Sanyare said the sports equipment would help to raise smart and active pupils.
EDUCO supports activities of local NGOs to enhance education delivery
and safeguard rights of children and women in the Northern Region.
